Project outline: Environmental change and migration are the two major challenges of our time. While there is general agreement in the scientific community that environmental change has the potential to significantly impact migration patterns, the evidence of migration occurring directly as a consequence of environmental change is limited. The PhD project seeks to decipher the impact of the environmental change on migration. It addresses the environment-migration nexus on a meso-scale by utilizing long-term migration information from the HDSS demographic surveillance system and combine it with environmental data in order to understand the spatial and temporal dynamics of the nexus.
