Counselling and Support in Case of Difficulties and Conflict

Pursuing a PhD can be a demanding and sometimes challenging journey. Along the way, difficulties or conflicts may arise for a variety of reasons. Conflict is a natural part of human interaction, and when approached constructively, can be a valuable source of growth. At the same time, it is important to recognize that overwhelming stress, discrimination, or any form of harassment or assault should never be faced alone. Seeking support can provide relief and help you navigate challenging situations effectively.

We're here to support

Our team is committed to supporting all PhD students in case of difficulties or conflict. If you are facing a challenging situation during your doctoral studies and would benefit from individual support, please do not hesitate to reach out.

You can contact the VISESS coordinator Martina Egger (E-Mail, Phone: +43-1-4277-53009) or any member of the VISESS School Board. We can help you explore possible next steps and connect you with appropriate support services.

We’re here to support you throughout the process, from analysing the situation, exploring possible solution strategies and support services, planning the best approach, to putting those solution strategies into action and checking in to see how things are working out.

All information you share with us will be treated confidentially and will only be shared with others with your explicit consent.

Part of a wider support network

Our services are embedded in the University of Vienna’s broader network of support structures and resources. These include confidential counselling, helplines in cases of violence, psychological services, and anti-discrimination initiatives. We encourage you to make use of these services whenever needed.
